A friend of mine sent an Email the other day and like so many others ( about almost any subject) it was slanted in one direction. This time it was about unions and how evil they are. Every story has two sides to it and this time instead of just deleting it, I wrote back that I didn’t agree with the moral of the story at all. Let me start by saying up front that I hate unions too, they are a pain in the you know what for everybody concerned. You have to go to the meetings and listen to a lot of useless rhetoric, you have to pay dues to support it, when it’s time for another contract you have to be on a committee to negotiate with the members as well as the owners, and etc. etc. But like tax’s they are a necessary evil. To put it very simply if there is no Sheppard the wolves will devour the flock. History will tell you what happens when there are no laws to govern by. There is an endless list of people being mistreated by those who employ them. To think that you and your family’s needs will be met as long as you just do what someone wants you to do so they can get what they want is naive to say the least, that’s sad but true. That is not always the case there are people who do live by the golden rule but not many. Unions are at an all time low, is this what is wrong with the economy? I think it is. Think about it, if you have groups of people meeting every month all over this country to cuss and discuss what is just and unjust, it effects everybody connected to them. Would wall street and the banks have gone down that road if they knew not everybody thought it was fair? Like I said nobody likes unions but sadly they are a necessary evil……….

Are Times That Tuff

The Stranger Creek Band (of which I’m a member) is well received, every where we play we have people telling us how good we are and how much they enjoy the music and still it is not easy getting payed for our talents. CD sales are down although we have a new CD that everybody wanted to buy, donations to our kitty keeps going down, and dances have low attendance. Are times really that bad? Has outgo exceeded income, is there too much month at the end of the money? Or are people just afraid to spend anything on entertainment? are they waiting for the times to get better? If you think times are bad now you should take another look at the 1930s. I didn’t live through the depression but I heard stories from people who did and brother that was tough to say the least. So until the politicians who have the reins decide on what direction to go, I guess people will hold on to what they have for now and people who are in the business that I’m in will have to tighten their belts a little more. But we are not the only ones who are struggling to keep making music, it is almost across the board, unless you are one of the Nashville brats that have a major label pushing them to the front of the line for the younger crowd that lives for the moment; I know that’s what I did when I was young. So good luck to them and enjoy, it don’t last very long………

The Killing Spree

I try not to get too serious with this little blog but it’s September 11 2011 and the anniversary of another killing spree. Oh it happens every once in a while Men for one excuse or another take what ever weapon is handy and find some innocent people who are just trying to get on with what life they have and they just kill them…. No there is no limit to the weapons they use no need to make a list. But the reasons they kill are pretty short and you could pretty much put it in one file under hate. Many times some God some where tells them to do these things or some government decides they want more than they already have. So they start making plans to kill as many as they can to please someone or some thing. Where would you like to start with the examples; King Herod, Hitler,John Wayne Gacy, oh the list goes on and on. We don’t need to write them down here there is a God that takes care of all that and he is not the God that hates and wants to kill, he is the one that loves us all and wants us to live happily ever after. But I guess he just don’t get involved with stopping these things from happening, I think he wants us to do that, but so far we haven’t figure out how.
